QA Automation Engineer

Position Description:

We are looking for an experienced QA Automation Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-scale automation solutions across desktop, web, and API applications.

The role combines hands-on automation engineering with technical planning, team collaboration, and stakeholder communication. The successful candidate will contribute to scalable automation frameworks, CI/CD integration, and AI-augmented testing practices while supporting quality across complex technology environments.

This is a hybrid role requiring attendance at our downtown Toronto office and/or the client office, a minimum of three days per week. This requirement is subject to change at any time.
 

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• Design, develop, maintain, and execute automation frameworks and test solutions across desktop, web, and API applications.
• Develop end-to-end automated workflows, validations, and regression suites using appropriate automation technologies.
• Contribute to test planning, estimation, test strategy, defect management, and quality metrics.
• Build scalable and reusable web and API automation frameworks and libraries.
• Support integration, system, end-to-end, cross-browser, and regression testing.
• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and support continuous testing practices.
• Apply AI-assisted development tools to generate and maintain test scripts, test data, and test scenarios, while validating AI-generated artifacts.
• Support technical planning and execution while collaborating with team members across Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
• Coordinate with technical teams and stakeholders to communicate testing progress, risks, defects, and quality considerations.
• Troubleshoot automation issues, including synchronization, object recognition, integrations, and test execution failures.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

QA Automation
• 4+ years of QA Automation experience across desktop, web (GUI), and API applications.
• Experience designing, developing, maintaining, and executing automation frameworks.
• Strong understanding of test planning, estimation, test strategy, and defect management.
• Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies and CI/CD integration.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Desktop Automation
• Hands-on experience with TestComplete desktop automation.
• Strong proficiency in JScript development.
• Experience with desktop application testing, object identification, and object repository management.
• Ability to automate end-to-end desktop workflows, validations, and regression suites.
• Experience troubleshooting synchronization and object recognition issues.
GUI / Web Automation
• Strong experience with Java-based test automation.
• Hands-on experience with Selenium WebDriver.
• Experience implementing Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) frameworks using Cucumber.
• Experience with JUnit and Maven.
• Strong knowledge of Page Object Model (POM) framework design.
• Experience with cross-browser, end-to-end, and regression testing.
• Ability to develop scalable and reusable web automation frameworks.
API Automation
• Strong experience with API test automation using Rest Assured.
• Hands-on experience using Java, Cucumber, and JUnit for API testing.
• Experience validating REST API requests, responses, business rules, and data integrity.
• Knowledge of JSON/XML validation and service integration testing.
• Ability to build reusable API automation libraries and frameworks.
• Experience supporting integration, system, and end-to-end testing.
AI-Augmented Testing
• Hands-on experience using GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, or similar generative AI tools for test automation.
• Experience generating test scripts, test data, and test scenarios using AI-assisted development.
• Knowledge of prompt engineering and validation of AI-generated artifacts.
• Experience using AI to support automation maintenance, defect analysis, and productivity improvements.
• Exposure to AI-driven testing approaches, including intelligent test generation, self-healing automation, and test impact analysis.
Additional Technical Skills
• Experience with Git/GitHub version control.
• Experience with Jenkins and CI/CD pipeline integration.
• Experience with JIRA, Azure DevOps, ALM, or equivalent test management tools.
• Experience with SQL and database validation.
• Experience with defect tracking, reporting, and quality metrics management.
Banking / Financial Services Experience
• Experience working in banking or financial services environments.
• Knowledge of retail banking, commercial banking, lending, payments, treasury, or capital markets applications.
• Experience validating financial transactions, reconciliations, and regulatory/compliance requirements.
• Understanding of enterprise integrations, data validation, and high-volume transaction processing environments.
Qualifications
• Experience building automation frameworks from scratch.
• Experience implementing enterprise-scale GUI, API, and desktop automation solutions.
• Knowledge of performance, accessibility, and security testing.
• ISTQB or automation-related certifications.
• Experience with cloud-based testing platforms and execution environments.
• Exposure to mobile automation frameworks.
• Demonstrated experience driving AI adoption within QA organizations.
• Experience with technical planning and execution.
• Experience with team coordination and collaboration.
• Experience with stakeholder management and communication.

The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $65,000–$115,000. This role is an existing vacancy."
